Tim is back - Tim Atkin MW visits Ribera del Duero

We were delighted to welcome acclaimed wine critic Tim Atkin MW to Ribera del Duero in our 40th Anniversary year this September, ahead of the compilation of the 2022 Ribera del Duero Top 100 Selection. Over the course of his two-week visit, Tim tasted 600 wines, describing his subsequent selection as one of his “most diverse and exciting, illustrating the enormous diversity of which the region is capable, thanks to its range of soil types, altitudes, aspects and sub-regions.”

Over the course of his visit, Tim tasted red wines, as well as a number of rosés and whites from wineries from all over the region, with different profiles, personalities and philosophies, accompanied by the winemakers behind them. All these wines were clear examples of the revolution that lives in the DO and were fantastic examples of viticulture, oenology and sustainable production, as well as our winemakers’ commitment to nature, consumers and the legacy of future generations.

At Bodegas Monteabellón, in Nava de Roa (Burgos), Tim led an exceptional tasting of "Grandes Vinos Ribera del Duero 95+", a blind tasting of 26 wines, all of which scored more than 95 points in the 2021 Ribera del Duero Top 100 Selection. This tasting highlighted the diversity and creative spirit of producers, as well underlining the high demand from professionals in their search for high quality wines.

Tim Atkin MW is one of the greatest international experts in Ribera del Duero, a region that he follows closely and visits assiduously. In his last Ribera del Duero report, published in early 2022, he noted that "Ribera del Duero is one of the most outstanding success stories in the world of wine. Not everything is perfect, but we must admit that in just four decades it has achieved impressive things. And the best is yet to come".
